Green Flag Award
The Green Flag award is awarded by the Civic Trust. It was launched
in 1996. The Civic Trust has managed the scheme since 2000. It supports
efforts to achieve national targets for delivering cleaner, safer and
greener communities and improve the quality of the built environment.
It encourages all local authority areas to have at least one Green Flag Award winner - access to good quality green space. The scheme highlights the good practice and achievements of the many people involved in creating and caring for the great spaces that contribute so much to the quality of life and social environmental and economic well-being. The scheme is judged against eight criteria:

Ogden Water has once again gained the Green Flag Award 2013/14/15/16/17/18/19 Ogden Water has once again gained the Green Flag Award 2012/13 Ogden Water has once again gained the Green Flag Award 2011/12 'Calderdale’s best parks have again retained Green Flag Award status'. They are Centre Vale Park, Todmorden; Manor Heath Park, Halifax; The People’s Park, Halifax; Ogden Water Local Nature Reserve, Halifax; Shibden Estate, Halifax; Wellholme Park, Brighouse; Bailiff Bridge Memorial Park, Bailiff Bridge. The awards recognise well-managed, high quality green spaces. Council spokeswoman Coun Pauline Nash said: “Our parks and open spaces are really important to us and we are so pleased that we have achieved Green Flag Awards for all seven of our entries again this year.” Ogden Water has once again gained the Green Flag Award 2010/11 Ogden Water has once again gained the Green Flag Award 2009/10 Ogden Water has once again gained the Green Flag Award 2008/9 Ogden Water has once again gained the Green Flag Award 2007/8 David Wilson writes: We are very proud to announce that Ogden Water has received its 6th Green Flag award. The Green Flag award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales, and is managed and awarded by the Civic Trust. The criteria for the award include first impressions for visitors, sustainability, cleanliness, security, conservation and community involvement. David Wilson Release: 2006 Once again Ogden Water is delighted to receive the Green Flag award. The award run by the Civic Trust on behalf of the office of the deputy Prime Minister, is awarded to parks that have achieved a high standard of excellence. At a ceremony this year held in Birmingham, David Wilson the estate manager, and Tim Edge of Calderdale's Countryside Service, collected a certificate and our fourth flag. The flag will be displayed beneath the Ogden Water Visitor Centre for all to see. Press release: Ogden Water is celebrating today, after being included in the list of winners of the 2003 Green Flag Award.The winners of the national standard for parks and green spaces were announced at a ceremony in Stratford-upon-Avon. Ogden Water is one of five parks in the Yorkshire and the Humber region to achieve the standard. Calderdale Council's Cabinet Member for Community Services, Cllr. Lorraine Stott, said the award was a tribute to the hard work of staff from the Council's Countryside and Forestry Unit and the local community. 'We have always known that Ogden Water is one of Calderdale's gems. Now it has received national recognition.'
