Interested in wildlife and the natural world?
Do you like bugs, beasties, trees, wildflowers, exploring, discovering, finding out and learning? Why not join the Ogden Water Wildlife Group?
This group provide children with the opportunity to discover, enjoy and help protect their local environment.
The Ogden Water Wildlife Group is open to families with children from 3 up to 14. We ask that adults stay with children at all times as we want to encourage a family experience.
We meet once a month at the Ogden Water Countryside Centre (unless stated otherwise) at 10am. Our sessions last approx. 2 hours and a charge of £1 is made for each session. We provide refreshments for the children (and tea & coffee for parents/guardians).
Over the past few years we have met hedgehogs, bats, moths, butterflies, frogs, pond creatures and butterflies. We have made shelters, bird boxes, bat boxes, candles and kites. We have delved into archaeology, planted trees, felled trees and enjoyed trips out to Robin Hood's Bay, Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve, Formby Point and Bempton Cliffs. We have also spent time on other Local Nature Reserves in Calderdale.
Our leaders are Countryside Officers working with Calderdale Countryside & Woodlands Service and along with volunteer help, bring a wealth or experience, knowledge and fun to the sessions. All the sessions are risked assessed and checked, with the leaders holding current first aid certificates.
We try to change the sessions each year and bring new experiences to the children, but we also take on board their suggestions and mould sessions around them.
