Green Flag Award

green flag logo

The Green Flag award is awarded by the Civic Trust. It was launched in 1996. The Civic Trust has managed the scheme since 2000. It supports efforts to achieve national targets for delivering cleaner, safer and greener communities and improve the quality of the built environment.

It encourages all local authority areas to have at least one Green Flag Award winner - access to good quality green space.

The scheme highlights the good practice and achievements of the many people involved in creating and caring for the great spaces that contribute so much to the quality of life and social environmental and economic well-being.

The scheme is judged against eight criteria:
A welcoming place
Healthy safe and secure
Clean and well maintained
Sustainability
Conservation and Heritage
Community involvement
Marketing
Management
